How do we make mining and resources cool again? The answer, a great initiative by the people at Unearthed to run events designed to develop rapid prototype solutions to resource sector problems. They took the cool hackathon approach from the tech industry and made it relevant to mining.

Focusing on ways to drive innovation in the resources sector should be applauded. The program is supported by another great government organisation, METS Ignited, encouraging the METS sector in Australia. I think everyone in the sector resognises the benefits of technology and the innovations that it can bring.

What I liked about the Unearthed program was the emphasis on collaboration and openness. Perhaps this is something that the whole industry could start to embrace to everyone's benefit?
